Crohn's disease is an inflammatory disease of the intestines. Currently incurable, common symptoms include abdominal pain, malnutrition, exhaustion and weight loss.
Diagnosed at age 12 Anushka Nagji has worked hard to keep the disease from taking undue control of her life. Always pushing the boundaries of her personal and physical limitations Anushka has become an accomplished performance poet and student of law at the University of Victoria. Unfortunately in early 2010 her symptoms began to flair up again. Her condition continued to deteriorate forcing her to take a semester off from school and eventually causing her to be hospitalized.
I spent time with Anushka as she dealt with the loss of control and isolation brought on by this debilitating disease.
